CRUZ NOVILLO. Chronocromophony

19/02/2019 - 04/05/2019
Chronocromophony is a specific project of Cruz Novillo for the Space Projects of the Fernando Pradilla Gallery. This is the artist's first collaboration with the gallery at a time when the boundaries between the plastic arts and design are blurred and the work of Cruz Novillo is fully relevant. To his recent projects: Hexaphonic diaphragm, Chair, opus 11 in the Patio Herreriano Museum of Valladolid (2015), Diaphragm heptaphonic for Cuenca opus 9 (2016) and Chrono-chromo works in the Francisco Sobrino Museum in Guadalajara (2018) joins his participation in the project An invented place, curated by Alfonso de la Torre for the windows of El Corte Inglés on the occasion of ARCO 19. In the nineties, Cruz Novillo develops the concept "Diaphragm", a name that encompasses many works whose common characteristic is the combination of a variable number of monochromatic, sound, photographic or three-dimensional elements. For the project in Fernando Pradilla, a selection of works on canvas and paper is presented, as well as an installation of wooden chairs and the projection of the digital work Diafragma dodecafónico 8.916.100.448.256, opus 14; All of them combine time, music, color and drawing, concepts that mark the line of research of this multifaceted creator. The geometric abstraction and the figuration coexist in the work of Cruz Novillo in a natural way since both come from the patterns marked by the combination of musical notes and colors; in this way the artist makes a nod to the multiple variations of a still life by Cezanne, to The Origin of the World by Courbet or to the Descent from the Cross by van der Weyden. Cruz Novillo (Cuenca, 1936) is an Academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, represented Spain at the International Biennial of Sao Paulo, Brazil
